The Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club (BSMC), Sacramento, CA chapter, originated with Ken “Highway” Coleman, becoming a Member At Large in February 1999. In June 1999, Ken Coleman and Rosealice "Boss Lady" Beatty established the Sacramento chapter.

Prior to  the formation of the Sacramento chapter, the origin of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle club started with Ken "Dream Maker" Thomas who founded the Buffalo Troopers Motorcycle Club of Chicago (National Mother Chapter) in October 1994. The organization evolved from the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club of Chicago, which “Dream Maker” founded in October of 1993. He believed it was time to establish a modern progressive motorcycle club whose focus was to promote a positive image among African Americans that would be respected in the community and throughout the country.

The BSMC popularity grew as members attended the national roundups and rallies held in various cities throughout the country. By August 1999, there were 7 chapters. These chapters formed the National Association of Buffalo Soldiers/Troopers Motorcycle Clubs (NABSTMC). Today the NABSTMC has over ninety (90) chapters in thirty-three (33) states, including Hawaii.  The NABSTMC website lists the various chapters belonging to the national organization at http://www.nabstmc.com.

The name Buffalo Soldiers was initially selected to pay homage to and ensure the legacy of the African American soldiers' contributions in the post Civil War era. That legacy would be carried forth by our membership. The new club was chartered as the Buffalo Troopers Motorcycle Club of Chicago for the 9th and 10th Horse Cavarly Troops "Buffalo Soldiers."

We ride under the name of the "Buffalo Soldiers" to express our pride and respect for the many accomplishments they made during the decades following the civil war.  Our goal is to instill some of that pride in the minds and hearts of today’s youth and the community at large.  We believe in our community, and as such, are committed to representing the heroes from the past, like the Buffalo Soldiers.
